In 1965, The Byrds' Gene Clark, Roger McGuinn, and David Crosby wrote the song Eight Miles High about their plane trip to England. Two years later, the group returned to London and McGuinn took along his home movie camera. Editing inside the camera, McGuinn created a one-take short film that Paul McCartney called "brilliant." In this Growing Bolder exclusive, McGuinn tells the story of this historic film -- and then shows it!
Check out a film by Bruce Conner that inspired Roger to make Eight Miles High

Posted 11:44 am November 2nd, 2008This is a truly amazing impressionistic film, way ahead of its time in 1966. It reminds me of the style in which the video footage of "A Day In The Life" by The Beatles was filmed in ´67, as documented in "Beatles Anthology"....
Thank you Roger, for making this accessable!

Posted 7:21 am September 6th, 2008WOW!!! I was so hoping something like this existed.
The interior airliner shots looking out appear to be a SUD Caravelle, or maybe a BAC-One-Eleven.
Maybe inter-city flying to Sweden for the "Drop-In" TV appearance???
At the end, I'm seeing an Alitalia DC-8, and a VERY RARE BEA Vickers Vanguard!!!
If you blink, you'll miss Chris & David too.
FASCINATING about the film being used at the Whiskey.
Thanks so much as always Roger.

Posted 7:20 pm July 17th, 2008Great recovery of some cool history. The best thing - 8 Miles High is still one of the greatest songs of all time. Go Roger!

Posted 3:18 am June 10th, 2008I had never seen the whole film before now, just clips. Bravo, Fantastic. I was there in the '60s as well and grew and learned guitar from these songs - it says a lot about those times. Thanks Roger.

Nice work man - you may have missed your calling... Just saw the Stones movie - wish it had more doc stuff (it's mostly show) but still a must see.
My favorite song - but you know that
How do you feel about reposting it ?

Posted 3:59 pm June 5th, 2008Marvelous trippy stuff. Like London on speed. Nice mix of 2-4-2 Fox Trot Lear Jet Song into Eight Miles High and good to hear Captain Soul again. Warning, could induce ADD in persons younger than yesterday. Thanks for retrieving this from the back pages for us. Pat Flannagan, Eustis, Florida
