As she nears her 90s, Dr. Gladys McGarey, who is considered by many to be the Mother of Holistic Medicine, has no plans of slowing down.
During her 60 years of practicing family medicine in Arizona, she was an early proponent of holistic patient care.
She's also an advocate of bringing health care to the neediest of people. In 2005, at the age of 84, Dr. McGarey and her 88-year-old brother spent two months in Afghanistan on a medical mission.
She spoke to Growing Bolder about her belief in incorporating holistic care into traditional medicine and how anyone can do it.

Posted 3:47pm August 29th, 2008Through Growing Bolder I learned of Dr. Gladys McGarey and bought her book which my daughter also read. She is truly an amazing woman who has given her life for others' benefit. Her life of purpose contrasts the 'celebrities' constantly crammed into our culture's mainstream communications (TV, radio, newspapers and magazines). Thank you for bringing Dr. Gladys to my attention.
