A horrific wreck in a bicycle race at the age of 64 nearly ended Sandy Scott's life. It was at least expected to end his cycling career. Not only did he recover, he's rewriting the record books! Today, at 70, he is feisty, fit and faster than ever, and an unforgettable example of why giving up is not an option.
Sandy's incredible story is also the subject of a new book, "From Broken Neck to Broken Records: A Master Cyclist's Guide to Winning," a book he co-wrote with his significant other Rose Marie Ray.

Monty, you and I are fortunate to be doing what we love to do. I so pleased that your fusing did not impact your ability to ride. Unfortunately, when C1 and C2 or C1 and the occiput are fused, the outcome vis-a-vis the ability to do anything requiring neck mobility is affected in a terribly negative and permanent way. I was happy to escape that outcome. Be well, and again, thanks for stopping by. Let me know how you like the book when you have a chance to read it.

Bravo to Sandy for not letting this injury slow you down. Seems it did quite the opposite. 31 years ago I was one of the people Lynette referred to. Have been a two wheeled junkie since I could walk. When a dirt bike accident gave me a taste of being a quadriplegic for a few weeks it was quite an eye opener. It sure did and for the better in my case. As it goes you're either lucky or not when it comes to spinal cord injuries. As in Sandy's and my case we were very fortunate. Never a day goes by when reflecting on what could have been. Seems our passion is strong as ever. Looking forward to reading Sandy's book. I've given Lynette permission to post this response. Her demographics about Bike Friday customers is spot on.
