Growing Bolder is something anyone can do. Knitters. Dancers. Writers. Painters. Entrepreneurs. This is how skydivers do it. It's one of the most inspiring, empowering and unforgettable world records ever, and only Growing Bolder was there to document it. After watching the video, make sure to check out GB's photo gallery from the world record attempts.

We'd like to thank photographers Rob Fortier and John Young for the amazing aerial video, as well as Skydive DeLand and owner Bob Hallett for extraordinary access to this event!

See how some of these jumpers trained at a special indoor skydive center!

Chet Poland was the world's oldest skydiver when he passed away in his mid-90's. We were fortunate enough to spend a little quality time with Chet when he was a very young 90 years old. He taught us in Jumping for Joy that it's never too late to enjoy the thrill of a good jump and the companionship of good friends.

Skydiver, stunt driver, parasailor, aspiring actor and ventriloquist and recent Clown Camp graduate Frank Taylor is always looking for his next adventure. He talked to Growing Bolder about why he feels compelled to keep pushing himself -- and his body -- now that he's in his 70s.

Skydiving simulators are increasingly popular with 50+ thrill seekers. They provide the fun, and you don't actually have to jump out of a plane. Today's simulators are indoor high-tech wind tunnels. But the forerunner was an old DC-3 propeller standing on end. Dangerous? Noisy? Fun? Yes. Yes. And Yes. Just the ticket in this GB Classic.

Time flies and so does this mother-son skydiving team. Growing Bolder found a unique tandem whose definition of spending quality time together involves taking the plunge at 13,500 feet.

What happens when a group of men over the age of 60 all jump out of a plane at the same time? The Sky Fossil, Norman Olson is back with a dramatic story of how close they came to a new world record, and a devastating injury -- listen to our interviews here and here.

That was great. I envy anyone who can do it on their own.  I always wanted to do that.  I learned to fly at 55 and finally, for my 80th birthday last year, I gave myself the ultimate present.   I skydived (tandem) at Skydive Space Center in Titusville, FL.  We went to 18,000 feet with no oxygen.  I was just thinking we better get out of here pretty quick or I  won't make it.  I was shaking and couldn't lift my feet,, I had to shuffle to the door.  But we made it and it was fantastic.  I'd love to do it again.

Thanks to all my friends that helped make this record possible. The staff and coordinators of this event did a wonderful job. I was honored to be part of this new SOS record and look forward to the next event. Remember to be who you are, because those the mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind at all.

Thanks for the great coverage of our 2009 SOS world record series event at Skydive Deland, Florida, January 15-18, 2009.

Some would ask, "Is there life after 60?"  Our group of Skydivers Over Sixty (SOS) have proved skydiving is a sport for young and old alike.

Septaugenarian skydivers belong to JOS (Jumpers Over Seventy) and Octogenarians are members of JOES (Jumpers Over Eighty Society).

A few SOS members have been jumping since WW II... most SOS members have thousands of sport parachute jumps and over 40 years of experience.
