We're in the business of finding cool people doing remarkable things. Or remarkable people doing cool things. Dr. Lucky Meisenheimer is both. He gets up every morning and swims across the large lake behind his house -- and he invites the world to join him.
Dr. Meisenheimer is a renowned skin cancer surgeon who also performs some cosmetic procedures. He's also an author, the world's leading authority of yo-yos and owns the world's largest collection of yo-yos. That's not all. He's a filmmaker, actor and producer.

Posted 8:48 am September 7th, 2009John -- and his brother Ben -- were two of the first swim coaches I had growing up in Kentucky and it's nice to see that he hasn't changed a bit. I just turned 40 and am celebrating by training for my first half marathon.

Posted 10:53 pm August 23rd, 2009I did my lake swim this past weekend. What a rush! I swam across it when I was seventeen. 20 years later, I did it again! Hopefully it won't take that long to swim it again. Doc, your a good man for opening your house, pool and showers the community. You the man.

Posted 9:22 am April 28th, 2009Did this swim last Saturday and had a great time! It was my first open water swim. Lucky is completely mad to open up his house every day but big thanks to him anyway.
I did a video as well (very amateur). It is here: http://www.michaelpeach.net/2009/04/25/luckys-lake-swim-2/

Posted 1:15 pm October 4th, 2008Many thanks to Lucky for opening his home and his lake to host anyone and everyone to come and experience an open water swim. It has certainly given me the confindence to show up at a competetive triathlon event and stand at the waters edge without the anxiety that I know a lot of athletes seem to have about the swim part of the race. Kudos, Telethe Wery

Posted 9:45 am September 26th, 2008What a great clip of the daily lake swim!! Lucky, you're a stand for fitness, fun and getting all wet!! Outstanding - Thanks for being such a generous person and so welcoming to everyone.
The lake monster is real... it's out there... sometimes I can just feel it. Especially before the sun comes up, the ski is clear, the water is cool and the moon is full.

Posted 7:36 am September 26th, 2008Great video! My Midwesterner friends believe I am nuts for simply swimming a mile early in the morning. Then there are those who live in Central Florida and understand that Mr. & Mrs. Ali Gator MIGRATE! Well, our family motto is: "You don't get hurt sitting on the couch." ya and who the heck wants to sit on the couch--when you can swim with Lucky AND maybe the Gators!!!

Posted 10:20 pm September 25th, 2008Yes, it's fun! after many years of doing Lucky's lake swim, it's still a kick, great training in a very "laid-back" setting. Actually, it's great for all swimmers- from those swimming for the exercise, to those swimming to win the next race.
Always a great group of people there.

Posted 12:32 pm September 25th, 2008Good Morning All -
I was sent this video clip this morning and I think most of you will agree how fun this looks!
http://growingbolder.com/media/sports/water-sports/luckys-lake-swim-202905.html
Very cool to have a "well off" swimmer welcome the world to his back yard - to swim with him every morning
While it is pretty gorgeous and isn't exactly WAC at 5:45am, I have to say, we have a pretty good thing going here in Irvine - and no artificial gators!
I really hope I get to meet Lucky for a swim someday...
Get out and swim today if you haven't already!
Ahelee
P.S. Thanks to Rachel for sending the clip and making my day - and please tell Lucky he is THE MAN!
