The entire world now knows Michael Phelps but this short clip was recorded 8 years ago just a few minutes after an unknown 15-year-old qualified for his first Olympic team.

Fast forward 8 years, and Phelps has become the greatest Olympic champion of all time, breaking the following records in Beijing:

• Most golds in a single Olympics (8)
• Most golds in an Olympic career (14)
• Most golds in individual events (9)
• Most medals by a male in an Olympic career (16)
