An executive at one of the country's largest health providers has a radical idea -- he has a plan to help you stay OUT of the hospital.
Des Cummings, Ph.D., is the executive vice president of Florida Hospital, which is part of the Adventist Health system, one of largest health providers in nation. He's also the author of several books, including his latest, "8 Secrets to a Healthy 100: What You Can Learn From the All Stars of Longevity."
Des says he guide for helping people avoid the hospital makes sense; the Adventist Health System was founded with a vision of health, as well as healing. He says it has a long history of helping patients get well and staying healthy.
By emulating the habits and lifestyles of the Seventh-Day Adventists of Loma Linda, California, who were recently recognized in Dan Buettner's The Blue Zones for their longevity, Des says people of all races, cultures, ages and geographic areas can learn the secrets to a long life.
But he also knows that it's not enough to simply live a long life if it's not a healthy long life. Des explains why it's so important to find your reason for living long and how it can help you stay active, vibrant and passionate about life.
