Not My Last Rodeo | Beverly Marshall-Luney Travels the World

Beverly Marshall-Luney is living proof of the countless benefits of a life on the go. After she spent decades climbing the corporate ladder, a series of devastating health setbacks forced her to reevaluate her lifestyle in unimaginable ways.

“I broke an ankle, I broke a knee, I broke a wrist, and I had a blood infection all within a 4-year period,” Marshall-Luney recalls. “That’s when I really began to realize that quality of life is centered about healthy lifestyle.”

As she rebuilt her health, she rediscovered a little girl’s dream inspired by visits to her local library, when she was spending her time in National Geographic books, dreaming of travel. That’s when she made the decision to change her life and pursue her childhood dream. In her mid-60s she founded Platinum Tours International.

“I don’t live in a spirit of fear. Instead of trying to connect to a travel agency and walk and move up the ranks, I wanted to be the boss from the very beginning,” Marshall-Luney says. “I had to pull that strength from myself and I had to encourage myself. I had to say, ‘This is not my last rodeo. I’ve got a whole bunch of living to do and I need to be able to get out there and do it.'”

Changing careers later in life changed Bev’s life and that of her many clients. Her signature “Where in the World is Bev?” adventures have taken travelers from Egypt, to Machu Picchu, the Holy Land, Nepal, Greece, Africa and countless places in between.

Wherever she is, at home or abroad, one of her most trusted travel companions is Uber.

“Anytime we have an evening, even any time we have a free time, anytime we have dinner on our own, guess what we do? We Uber. Because Uber is recognized all over the world,” Marshall-Luney says.

“What I love about Uber more than anything is that you push the button a day or two before and it’s already scheduled. And not only are they there, but they’re ready to go. I love the convenience. I love the non-transaction. I love how it works in my lifestyle.”

Marshall-Luney’s love of travel has led to a happier, healthier future. She is proof that if you want to keep moving, you have to keep moving as you age. Years ago, she admitted to lying about her age. But today, surrounded by family, friends and fellow adventurers, she’s stopped lying—not because the number matters, but because it doesn’t.

“I have confessed I’m 77. What’s it like being 77? I don’t know. It’s nothing but a number,” Marshall-Luney declares. “I don’t think that we should be defined by the number of times we go around the sun.”
