Dr. Ellington Darden didn't just write the book on strength training, he has written 50 books on the subject.
In the 1960s and 1970s, he was one of the world's top amateur bodybuilders. During that time, he met Arthur Jones, the man who invented Nautilus exercise machines. For 17 years, Ellington was the director of development and research for the company, and in the process, he changed the way ordinary people work out.
As he's aged, he's helped older exercisers use his high-intensity training methods for years beyond when they thought they'd no longer be working out. He tells Growing Bolder that very small increments of exercise (we're talking five minutes a day) can do wonders to prolong your life.
