The Yardbirds was an innovative British band known for big hits and launching the careers of three of greatest rock gods ever — Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page.

But in many ways, it was drummer Jim McCarty who held the band together.

Now a successful solo artist, the drummer from that Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band joined Growing Bolder from the South of France to take us inside the history of one of the greatest bands of all time.

The Yardbirds were a struggling London band when they got their big break after being selected to play at the Beatles Christmas concert in 1964.

Jim explains why they were chosen and how one member of the audience changed their lives forever.

He also explains why Clapton left the band right before their breakthrough hit, “For Your Love,” came out.

Did Jim have a favorite guitarist of the three? He did and his answer may surprise you.

Jim also tells stories about the London club scene in the 1960s and whether he ever had a sense that it was a time and place music fans would talk about forever.

Today, he is still touring with the Yardbirds, featuring a new lineup, and has a new album called “Sitting on Top of Time” about living in the present moment. Find out whether that’s something that comes natural to him or if he had to work to achieve that mindset
