Johnny Mathis is one of our most beloved singers, and he’s still going strong. Now 73, he’s still touring and still in love with the business.
His greatest hits album is in the Guinness Book of World Records for spending nearly 10 straight years on the Billboard charts. It’s even more amazing when you consider how his career almost never happened. Mathis was a great athlete in his youth. He was a track star and excelled at the high jump. In fact, in 1956 he had to choose between trying out for the Olympic team and signing his first contract with Columbia Records.
The very next year his appearance on the Ed Sullivan show turned him into an “overnight” sensation. He hasn’t slowed down since.
These days, he’s hitting the road to promote his new CD, “A Night to Remember.”
