Over the past 40 years, rock photographer Bob Gruen has captured iconic images of Elvis Presley, John Lennon, The Rolling Stones and Madonna.
He has treated us to the kind of candid, private access portraits that capture the essence of his subjects. And it’s not just rock fans that love his pictures; John Lennon and Yoko Ono chose him as their personal photographer in 1972 and invited him inside for some of their most private moments, including the first pictures of their son, Sean.
Bob talked to Growing Bolder about his backstage pass to some of the greatest moments in music history. He was in New York when punk rock and new wave was born and spent significant time on the road with groups like Blondie, The Sex Pistols and The Ramones.
And he’s still at it today. Find out how the world looks to a 62-year-old photographer compared to a 20-year-old and what he considers his favorite rock photograph of all time.
