For 40 years, the book “What Color is Your Parachute” has been the definitive resource for job hunters everywhere.
Author Dick Bolles has updated it every year, and he says he has one goal for this year’s edition — to give people hope.
He said the media is filled with stories of doom and gloom about the job market, but Dick said most members of the media, including the so-called experts, just don’t understand the true nature of the job market.
Dick says there are a tremendous amount of jobs available out there, yes, even now, but people just don’t know how to look for them.
His new book includes statistics from every month of the recession, and Dick shows that each month, 3 to 4 million people found jobs and another 3 million jobs went unfilled.
He said there are opportunities out there for anyone willing to work hard. And working hard includes job-hunting. You can’t expect to find your dream job without putting in the work.
Dick also offers tips for people looking to switch careers. He says no matter the economic situation, you should always be willing to leave unfulfilling careers in order to find something you’re passionate about.
Find out how.
