Mike King always admired the non-profit world, and over the years, he found himself especially drawn to the work being done at the Livestrong Foundation, which supports cancer patients, survivors and their caregivers with free programs and advice for navigating the complicated world of cancer care.
While pursing his MBA at the prestigious Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Mike signed on to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. The experience would change his life forever. It eventually led him to co-founding a new program, Survivor Summit, which supports Livestrong’s mission.
He explains how he and his brothers (pictured above, from L to R, Matt, Mike, Brian and Paul) connected the dots between all their previous experiences while brainstorming at a post-Livestrong gathering and within weeks, they were organizing their first trip to take cancer survivors to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the world’s tallest freestanding mountain, to give those survivors the opportunity to make a statement to the world.
