Imagine making up your mind that you’d had enough — that you were going to Do It. You were going to do that thing you’d always dreamed about before life got in the way.

For Renee Petrillo, the “it” was dropping out of the rat race and dropping anchor somewhere else.

She and her husband, neither of whom had any sailing experience, sold their possessions, bought a sailboat and set off for the Caribbean.

She documents their adventures in her new book, “A Sail of Two Idiots: 100+ Lessons and Laughs from a Non-Sailor Who Quit the Rat Race, Took the Helm and Sailed to a New Life in the Caribbean.”

Renee says she had a picture perfect life — a nice home, a great job and a great marriage. But she just felt like she was asleep in life. She had always pictured herself traveling and living unencumbered but that’s not the life she was living.

She asked her husband if he was ready to take an adventure and he agreed.

Renee says their dream was just to live in the Caribbean; the boat was just their means of getting there.

She explains how they started with baby steps and how they eventually found themselves living on a boat 24/7 in the Caribbean.

Find out her tips for waking yourself up and avoiding ruts in your own life. She says you don’t have to do something as drastic as selling everything to live on a boat but there are simple things you can do to shake up your old routines.

Plus, Renee explains why it’s so important to fully investigate your dreams before taking off and why you should never ignore your inner voice.
