In 2001, a newspaper sport editor was beaten and strangled to death in a parking lot in Columbia, Missouri. Ryan Ferguson was a freshman in college when he was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 40 years in prison. There was no physical evidence and no motive. His conviction was based on two witnesses who later admitted they didn’t tell the truth and recanted their testimonies.

After spending 10 years in prison, Ryan was released.

Now 30, he’s putting his life back together and has written a book called “Stronger, Faster, Smarter: A Guide to Your Most Powerful Body.”

Ryan talks to Growing Bolder Radio about his time in jail and how his father’s advice before he was sent away helped him survive physically and mentally while his dad kept working to prove his innocence on the outside.

Ryan describes how he took the limited resources he had in prison and made the best of his situation. He talks about how each one of us can take what’s available to us, no matter our circumstances, and improve ourselves and in the process, our lives.
