Susan Powter was one of the most recognizable personalities on TV in the mid-1990s as a health and fitness guru who took on the entire diet industry. She’s a three-time New York Times bestselling author and she was a mainstay of pop culture.

So what happened to her? Eleven years ago, she says she told one of her 15 agents that she wanted to have another baby.  The agent said she couldn’t. So, Susan fired all of her agents and went into a self-imposed exile.

These days, she has three kids: a 25-year-old, a 24-year-old and an 11-year-old, and she’s grown out her trademark platinum blonde buzz cut for long locks.

Her hair isn’t the only thing that’s new — she’s embracing new media in a big way with her Web site, blog and online videos. She says what hasn’t changed is her message.

Her newest book, which is her seventh, is called, “The Politics of Stupid: The Cure for Obesity.”  Susan says she writes from personal experience.  Years ago, the former housewife lost 130 pounds by eating, breathing and thinking her way back to a life of energy and strength. She says there are no shortcuts to losing weight, but there is a cure.
