Vicki Lawrence

In

The great Vicki Lawrence has had one of those careers that almost seems to be ripped from a Hollywood movie. First, she was discovered at the age of 17 in the most unusual way. Her uncanny resemblance to Carol Burnett actually brought Ms. Burnett herself to a local pageant Vicki was competing in, all because Carol had a “hunch.”

The rest is history.

Vicki went on to become an integral part of Carol’s ground-breaking and legendary show, “The Carol Burnett Show.”

That show also gave birth to Vicki’s most well-known character — Mama.

Vicki takes us through the fascinating history of her beloved sitcom “Mama’s Family,” and why she longs for the well-written character comedies of the past. And is Mama needed more than ever today? Vicki, who played “Hannah Montana’s” grandmother, channels her inner-Mama to weigh in on Miley Cyrus and her twerking.

Vicki is now touring the country with “Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show,” and she explains how much she enjoys seeing people meet Mama for the first time or finally be reunited with her.

Plus, she explains the long but exciting process of bringing “Mama’s Family” to DVD for the first time, including the family reunion she got to pull together with the rest of the show’s cast for the DVD extras.
