Forget the Playground: Jump Ropes are the Hottest Fitness Tool

In

Remember when you and your friends would run out to recess to double-dutch? Or you’d grab a jump rope to play with after school and see how many times you could swing it over your head and under your feet without stopping?

Today, the jump rope is hotter than ever, thanks to its use as a fitness tool. Sure, Sylvester Stallone impressed us with his skills as Rocky:

But the guy you really need to look to as a jump rope pioneer? Buddy Lee. Buddy:

  • was a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling team
  • is an author and motivational speaker and has appeared on nearly every national network talking about the benefits of jumping rope
  • dispels the myth that you’re too old to jump rope

Take a look at this video of Buddy showing off his incredible skills:

and this one, with Buddy and a stranger showing off their hip hop dancing and jump rope skills:

And as he shared with us on Growing Bolder Radio, he truly thinks this is a sport and a fitness routine that is appropriate for all ages.

According to some measurements, jumping rope can burn more than 10 calories a minute while strengthening your legs, butt, shoulders, and arms, and can burn more than 200 calories in two, 10-minute sessions each day.

So what are you waiting for? Go grab a jump rope and start training!
