As we enter the third – or is it fourth, our brains are fuzzy – of the Presidential Election frenzy, we could all use some words of comfort. Better yet, comfort food. Pizza anybody?
So a well-deserved shout-out to Pizza to the Polls, a group dedicated to sending free snacks to crowded polling locations. At last count, they sent 66,089 pizzas to 3,267 polling places across 48 states.
So a well-deserved shout-out to Pizza to the Polls, a group dedicated to sending free snacks to crowded polling locations. At last count, they sent 66,089 pizzas to 3,267 polling places across 48 states.
The pizzas were paid by donations totaling $1.458 million from grassroots supporters.
The organization also deployed 262 food trucks to 29 cities through a partnership with Uber Eats and other groups.
“Hunger is the last thing that should hurt our elections,” Pizza to the Polls co-founder Scott Duncombe said in a statement. “Our mission is to create the same enthusiasm that brought everyone to the polling site in the first place.”
Mission accomplished.
The food trucks are a unique way to quickly get food to people in need. The process worked this way: When a long line was reported in one of the cities involved with the program, Pizza to the Polls verified the situation on social media, and then deployed a food truck to feed hungry and patriotic Americans.
As election fatigue and uncertainty continued into Thursday morning, we have a favor to ask:
