Florida has the largest percentage of adults 65 and older in the nation (21%) and as the state’s senior population continues to increase, Florida’s future is linked to the health and wellbeing of its elder population.

Growing Bolder Day Jacksonville, presented by Aging True in partnership with the City of Jacksonville, is a free, community-wide, celebration of aging for everyone, of every age. Infused with energy, activity, education and entertainment, it promotes the importance of an active lifestyle and shares the keys to happy and healthy aging.

“The unprecedented age wave will continue to put increased stress on families, as well as state and local senior service providers,” said Teresa K. Barton, president and CEO of Aging True. “Our goal is to raise awareness of what can be done at every age to improve the quality of life and to share the resources available for local seniors and their families to help them age happily and healthily.”

Growing Bolder Day Jacksonville inspires all generations to make positive lifestyle choices that increase health span, support independent living and reduce future healthcare costs. “Countless studies confirm that individuals have a large degree of control over their health and wellbeing as they age.” said Growing Bolder CEO Marc Middleton. “By our actions, we can delay and prevent many of the illnesses that older Floridians suffer from. An improved quality of life for individuals and a reduced care burden on families, local and state senior service providers is the ultimate win-win.”

Join us at WJCT Studios on Saturday, May 17, as we celebrate Florida’s fastest growing demographic and recognize Jacksonville, The Bold New City of The South, as a senior-friendly, intergenerational community.
