Battling for His Health at the Battle of the Bands

At the Track Shack Battle of the Bands 5K, local bands positioned throughout the course compete against each other, rocking out to inspire runners and walkers to keep going. 63-year-old Frank Carter needs no additional inspiration. Running in the Growing Bolder division, powered by Florida Blue Medicare, Frank ran this race one year ago and as soon as he finished he knew that something wasn’t right. He soon learned he had mantle cell lymphoma. Frank shares his personal battle to get back on the course, one year later.

Madonna Hanna has achieved all her life, as an award-winning teacher, author, and fashion industry executive. In 2011 she added sprinter to her list when, at 57, her late husband began coaching her and she entered the Washington Senior Games. After his death, Madonna kept her promise to him to keep running. She found a new coach in nationally-ranked track athlete Marcus Chambers, and their work together helped Madonna achieve gold at the 2023 National Senior Games.
