Legendary musician Billy Joel has announced that due to a diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), he is cancelling the remaining concerts on his summer tour.
NPH is a challenging neurological disease that is often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer’s or dementia. Growing Bolder has seen firsthand how the disease can be overcome when we shared the story of Judson and Barbara Stryker, a married couple who both faced NPH and recovered to continue doing the things they love most.
Like Joel, they shared their story to help other families who think hope is lost in the face of a diagnosis.
After 54 years of marriage, Judson and Barbara Stryker thought they’d been through it all. They never expected they’d both suffer from the same, unusual neurological condition that frequently is misdiagnosed as Alzheimer’s or dementia. They found life-saving answers when a multi-disciplinary team accurately diagnosed them with NPH — normal pressure hydrocephalus.
Today, they’re both recovered and have returned to doing the things they love: Judson is back to teaching finance at Stetson University and Barbara is once again able to play piano.
