Bree and Stephen Sandlin of Katy, Texas, recently traveled to Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa, to celebrate life and a major milestone — Bree’s one-year cancer-free anniversary. It was yet another life-challenging and life-changing battle the family faced.

See how they coped with the birth of twins after years of infertility, only to be faced with another challenge. One of their sons spent nine months in NICU, suffered a stroke at six months old and was left with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy.

Through all of life’s obstacles, including Bree facing her own mortality after her cancer diagnosis, they’ve never lost their joy for life or each other. Their story is a testament to the power of the human spirit. Follow along on their journey, including how they’ve created a life of purpose and engagement for their now 7-year-old twins.

And we have an exciting update on Bree’s story:

Bree Sandlin

Two years ago Bree was declared cancer free after a difficult battle with stage three triple negative breast cancer, an aggressive cancer with a high mortality rate and limited treatment options. Bree endured multiple surgeries and 8 months of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. She celebrated her clean pathology report just one year later by summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. In January 2015, she ran and completed her first marathon, The Walt Disney World Marathon in Orlando, Florida. Anything is possible. Seize the day. Celebrate the opportunity. Way to go Bree!
